Minute by His Excellency the Governor.
I signed the last deportation warrant with reluctance, as the sentences that had been carried into effect appeared to be illegal. In this case, I am also somewhat surprised at some of the sentences that have been inflicted. Before signing the warrant, I should therefore be glad to receive a brief report from the Attorney General on each of the four convictions and sentences which are now put before me as the justification of the course recommended to take.

Report from the Attorney General.
The convictions of the Magistrate being in full force unappealed against and unreversed will not be considered bad in law and would, I think, justify the Executive Council, I think, in recommending that the party should be sent out of the Colony.
By Ordinance No.9 of 1877, §7 as amended by 4 of 1871, §2, it is provided that His Excellency in Council may by order under his hand, forbid any person not being a native born or naturalized Subject of Her Majesty from residing or being within this Colony during any ...
